May 2013 Bali Yoga Adventure Tour!
"I just returned from conducting a Bali Adventure Tour, collaborating with Akhila to teach daily gentle yoga after which I escorted the group on local attractions and adventures in Bali. Initially, I had not intended to participate in the daily yoga as I have never gotten into the practice. However, I thought I should just try it a few times and my experience was quite enlightening and very positive. The group was a mix of people who were experienced and newbies which must be difficult to teach, but Akhila was great at providing the non-experienced with alternate poses that would be easier and not held as long. In the tradition of the Balinese, who set out daily offerings of flowers and incense to the gods, Akhila gathered flowers every morning and placed them in baskets and lit incense to put around our yoga space. This, as well as the gentle yoga and meditation put us in a wonderful frame of mind to embark on some wonderful adventures that only Bali can provide. I highly recommend Akhila's knowledge and expertise in the art and practice of yoga!" Charlaine Ramsay
Veterans Yoga Class December 2012: "Thank you so much! I have found that I am losing weight which is good, redefining muscles which is good, losing cellulite which is really good with doing Yoga. Just wanted you to know that I am seeing the positive aspects of Yoga in my body." J.C. Vietnam era Veteran.
Soft Yoga Class APRIL 2012: "If you're a senior citizen, who is ailing from creaking joints, poor range of motion, lethargy, or just feeling stressed out by life's challenges, I highly recommend Dragonfly Studio for Yoga.
I have been a student of (Akhila) Bonnie Murphy's for about two months, and am definitely feeling the beneficial effects of practicing yoga with her. Bonnie's style of practicing is totally positive You are allowed, and encouraged to move at your own pace and ability level. There is no intimidation factor what so ever. You find yourself becoming focused on what you are doing, and are not even aware of what and how the other students are doing.
I am gradually gaining more flexibility, sensing improved circulation, as well as improving my posture. The practice sessions quiet my mind, and allow me to become more aware of my body.
In short, I am feeling better about myself. I just wish I had started practicing yoga sooner. I encourage anyone to just give it a try. ------ Neil Hendricks, Penn Valley
Akhila's Essential Yoga Mix MAY 2012: "As I did extensive yard work today I was appreciating what yoga has done for me over the last 3 or so years. I've been quite sedentary most of my life and about three years ago, at the age of 58, sought out yoga to regain some strength and flexibility plus gain some methods of dealing with stress and anxiety in my life. All of those goals have been attained! As I squatted and stood many times, dug and pried old oleander roots out of our wonderful hard red dirt, stood with one knee flexed and the other extended behind me (lunge position) I was so glad that I had made that move to join you at Dragonfly Yoga Studio. I know I could use more exercise as most people would probably say but this is working so well for me now.
I have also learned to pay attention to my breathing, "stay in present time", and have developed a higher awareness of my body's response to stress: tight neck muscles, hunched shoulders, holding my breath, and worrying about the past and the future. Thank you for the techniques you've taught me to deal with those responses". --------------------Debbie Vander Plaats
